Jonathan E. Wingo, PhD, FACSM

Professor, Exercise Science Department Head of Kinesiology, Director of the Exercise Physiology Laboratory, University of Alabama


Dr. Jonathan Wingo is a Professor, Exercise Science, and currently serves as the Department Head of Kinesiology and Director of the Exercise Physiology Laboratory. After earning his PhD in Exercise Science from the University of Georgia in 2006, he completed a postdoctoral fellowship in integrative physiology while jointly appointed at the Institute for Exercise and Environmental Medicine and the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas, Texas. He became a Fellow of the American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM) and earned an ACSM Certified Exercise Physiologist credential in 2013. Dr. Wingo has published research articles in Medicine and Science in Sports & ExerciseJournal of Applied PhysiologyExercise and Sport Sciences Reviews; American Journal of Physiology – Regulatory, Integrative, and Comparative Physiology; Aerospace Medicine and Human PerformanceEuropean Journal of Applied Physiology; and other sports science journals. His research focuses on human cardiovascular and thermoregulatory responses during exercise and work in hot ambient conditions. His primary class taught is Fitness Appraisal and Exercise Prescription. In his free time he enjoys spending time with his family.
